For the last few weeks, I have been hacking on OpenCV to put together a little web application for the new POP magazine App, and it finally got approved. Go out and buy yourself a POP magazine and get the app immediately! When combined, you unlock the power of HIDDEN CONTENT. I think.

Roadshow Developments

We finally bought the flights for the roadshow, which will be November 14th through November 22nd. So now we are locked in. No backing out now. We’ll ride this crazy roller coaster to the end of the line.

The final lineup is (from left to right):

2008 Eyebeam Roadshow Catalog (PDF)** – This catalog contains all of the workshops that we are offering at each stop of the show. The specifics haven’t been nailed down yet, but we will be doing some combination of artist talks and workshops at each of the venues.

If you live near one of these schools and would like to lend your couch to a traveling artist, please contact me. We’re doing this thing on the cheap.

With the creation of BoozBot, Eyebeam Fellows David Jimison and Jeff Crouse have now added the bartending robot to that list of creative roles for automatons. The birth of BoozBot opens a fresh chapter at the intersection of technology, human interaction, and the science of personality. BoozBot converses with the wit and wisdom of your favorite corner barkeep, pouring drinks, monitoring sobriety, and engaging patrons one-on-one.

My role in the creation of BoozBot was to write the software that controls him. I also did a bit of the building.

Dirt Party

Dirt Party is an installation/performance where gossip, rumors, photos, and other types of information about people at a particular party is dug up and reshaped into some kind of display or performance. At Futuresonic, the aesthetic was the popular “LOLCat” format. Using volunteers and Mechanical Turk, we dug up dirt about over 100 party-goers and created a series of photos that entertained and embarassed the party-goers.

The first Dirt Party took place at the Eyebeam 10th Anniversary Benefit, where the output was a series of dynamically generated tabloid covers.

Anywhere But Here

Anywhere But HERE! is a playful examination of the use of party photography as social currency. Participants use an assortment of props, costumes, and computer-aided special effects to fake being at an imaginary location.

Secret Satan

Participants exchange Halloween costumes over the course of the evening, surprising each other with the outfits that they must wear. Those who do not take part are outfitted with costumes on the premises. Hilarity ensues.

Hit! or Sh!t

Hit! or Sh!t is a media delivery system that recommends media that the user is likely to enjoy based on submitted ratings, and also creates networks between the users based on both real-world connections and statistically-generated ones. Original concept by David Jimison. Funded by mtvU Digital Incubator. Hit! or Sh!t was built using Flash and SOAP (PHP/MySQL).

Operation Clyde

Operation Clyde is a multiplayer game which utilizes cell phones as the control device. In Operation Clyde, players control ghosts using the number pad on their cell phone, by calling into one of the game’s phone numbers. Operation Clyde was premeired at the Georgia Tech Living Gameworlds Symposium. I was co-programmer and game designer.
