That's right -- the AVFoundation stuff isn't supported in the simulator.

Hi Jeff,

I just tried your OF versions for iphone and I am trying to run inside simulator. It cannot find all the declarations related to AVFoundation.

Is it because of simulator?

I think you could make a shiny penny off this! There already seems to be a stir of commercial interest buzzing about Godblock. You best get started =D

And to Xeno, by all means. Produce Jesus, I'll bring my kids to come and visit with HIM. Oh wait, someone hung him on a cross. Bummer.

This works great! Thanks for taking the time to write these instructions...

I would add a step after step 3 to properly load the variables in the session. I don't remember the command for that, so I just logged out and ssh in again.

Hey Wade,
Making a full-fledged video sharing site will require some kind of server-side scripting that goes beyond what the Panda API offers. AFAIK, the panda team has no plans to add user authentication and the like into their codebase. I would recommend looking into basic PHP CMS systems.
Good luck!

Great post.
This was a great tutorial to get started. Thank you for posting.

Im trying to learn how to create a more dynamic video solution, where users can control their own video and set permissions (friends, private, public). I also read that Panda handles streaming across platforms (old browsers, html5, mobile video). Any knowledge you have in these areas would be very helpful.

Matthew 19:13-14
13. Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked the people,

I tried to follow these steps (exactly) but I got two errors:

The first when I ran
ant ivyclear dist

No dist folder is created and I get bash: ant: command not found

The second after I run ./red5.sh:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/red5/server/Bootstrap
Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.red5.server.Bootstrap

Could not find the main class: org.red5.server.Bootstrap. Program will exit.

Any idea what is causing these errors?

Hey there. This looks like a nice beginning to a chipmunk set of wrapper classes for oF. I was just starting one of my own, and was curious if you have the implementation of the above somewhere to take a look at. I'd love to build off what you already have, if possible, rather than recreate the wheel.

Either way, looks like you're well on your way to a nice library!

Paul - you are right - I was kind of infuriated by the deluge of sexual abuse stories I was hearing and reading and made some bad generalizations. As much as I do think that most organized religion is harmful to society, I do acknowledge that the horrors inflicted upon children all over the world by the Roman Catholic church don't necessarily say anything about religion in general. It's more nuanced than that. It's clear that there are certain beliefs and practices of the Roman Catholic Church that lead to the ubiquity of these abuses. And some of these beliefs and practices are shared by other major religions. I think the moral infallibility is one of these things. If it was any other organization that had proven to churn out child rapists, would they still be running 90%+ of the schools in Ireland? Religion enjoys a special status in most cultures that prevents people from questioning it, which allowed these abuses to go on for much longer than they would have if the church wasn't considered morally infallible and above reproach.

Jeff - How can the actions of some priests within one religious organisation invalidate all religions and any belief in God? Isn't that as mind-numbing as arguing that "we need morality. Morality rests on belief in God. Therefore God exists"? This scandal (or run of scandals) about the Catholic church certainly raises a variety of questions, but it is a bit flippant to see it as undermining all religions everywhere. Indeed, I don't think it means that every decent person who was a Roman Catholic should instantly join or found a new church.

I agree with Matt. If you've been out of the PHP loop for a while and you're hitting a learning curve anyway, then it might be time to hit something more elegant like Rails/Merb.

ActiveRecord is a pretty sweet ORM for getting things up and running.

Haven't used Django myself but I head good things.

The other thing that occurred to me was using Drupal+CCK just to get the thing off the ground. That way you don't need to interact with the DB at all, just point and click through the web interface to create whatever entities you need.

You covered alot of them - I've been only playing with django recently as I'm working on the "django-federation app":[http://gitorious.org/federated-photo-gallery/django-federation]

BUT - somehow I stumbled on "Lithium":[ http://lithify.me/ ] while futzing around. It's a fork of cakephp by some of the developers who didn't like the roadmap for cakephp3. They seem to have their shit together and it looks good.

No warranty, I haven't really trawled through it. Dreamhost supports Passenger - so why not just pick up Django or Rails? Both are mature, smart, and require 2 less keystrokes to access a member variable.

[...] Invisible Threads is a mixed reality performance installation created by Eyebeam artists Jeff Crouse and Stephanie Rothenberg. The project explores the growing intersection between labor, emerging virtual economies and real life commodities through the creation of a designer jeans sweatshop in the metaverse Second Life. Simulating a real life manufacturing facility that includes hiring Second Life “workers” to produce real world jeans sold for profit, the project provides an insider’s view into current modes of global, telematic production.
