Iowa State Roadshow

We kicked off the Eyebeam Roadshow two weeks ago in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, at University of Iowa, in the Studio Arts department. We started a Flickr group for the photos.

We had a great time in Iowa. Everyone was super nice, and we built an awesome fort in the Studio Arts Building, which was, awesomely, a former Home Depot (but they call it Manards in Iowa — silly Iowans).

Steve Lambert and I did a “The Web for Artists” workshop. Jamie O’Shea and Christina Kral did a circuit bending workshop, and Steve did a Shopdropping workshop. It was a great start to the Roadshow.

The New York Times has just released a special edition about the end of the war and is handing it out all over the streets of New York. There is a video about it. Go and digg it immediately. The site is a little slow because it is getting hit really hard. So be patient. Or, if you live in New York, just go to Manhattan and get yourself a print edition.

negative feedback voids warranty

My little brother recently had his computer stolen, so after a bit of asking around, I found someone who was kind enough to give me their old PowerBook G3. The problem was that this kind person had lost the power supply. So I looked online and found that Smart_Parts_USA was selling one for a good price, so I bought it. A few days later, it arrived, and a few days after that I got this email:

Negative feedback voids a warranty? What does a warranty on a product have to do with how the customer feels abouttheir experience with a seller? Pretty shady if you ask me.

For Halloween this year, I was in a pinch. I was going to the Apes & Androids concert (which was amazing), and costumes were required. So the night before Halloween, I decided that I was going to use the large-format printer that we have at Eyebeam from Invisible Threads to make a “low-res me” costume. Josh Dick was kind enough to take a few pictures of me with his amazing camera, and I blew them up to life size, pixelated them in Photoshop, and then printed it all out on canvas. You can print out your own low-res Jeff costume if you happen to have a large-format printer and some canvas lying around. Just download the 428k, 2520 x 11,520 (3 foot x 15 foot) JPEG on the left and go crazy!

I only had 3 hours to put the whole thing together after I got back from Iowa (post about that coming soon), so it is a little ghetto looking, but the handful of people who understood waht I was supposed to be semed to be impressed. Overall, it was a success. I think I will try it again next year and leave myself a little more time.

My awesome new intern, Mike Burakoff, made these sexy postcards for the Eyebeam Roadshow. They will be available at Eyebeam Open Studios this Saturday. Come by and get one!

I will also be showing DeleteCity and the work I am doing with Marina Zurkow, both of which are in progress, but that’s kind of the point of Open Studios - to see us hard at work. I also have a new BoozBot video, and hopefully the new and improved Earthify will be working by then, thanks to another wonderful intern, Will DeWind. Get a preview of the new site on his site.
